Choosing the right investigator can be an arduous task, especially in an industry which remains un-regulated.  Always do your own investigations when selecting an investigator:

1. Make sure they are licensed with the Information Commissioners Office for the Data Protection Act 1998.  For example Falco Investigation’s registration number is: Z8297404. 
   
   
2. Ensure they hold a Consumer Credit License under the Office of Fair Trading especially if they undertake debt collection, repossessions and the like.  Falco’s number is: 548312.
   
   
3. Most importantly they are insured correctly which should include Professional Indemnity Insurance.
